Making beautiful things

Is there a skill you would love to someday learn? Given a bit of time, I would love to learn how to embroider.  I love embroidery on clothes, sometimes the more the better! To me embroidery equals artisanal craftmanship.

I remember watching and waiting for the moment when Kate Middleton's dress would be unveiled and being in owe over the delicate lace embroidery on her dress.  I'm sure that took hours and hours of labor!

Then recently, I saw a photo of Kirsten Dunst wearing Chanel haute couture and again, there was all this delicate and beautiful embroidery of lace and sequins on her dress. Just beautiful.

How then can I not want to learn to make something like that? Of course that kind of skill probably takes hours of work and years of study. And I don't even know if I'm going to be any good at it.  But guess what I just found out?  The house of Lesage which has long been making fabulous embroidery for all the haute couture houses, notably Chanel, is offering embroidery courses.  Isn't that amazing? I just had a look at their website and courses range from 3 hours (for the most basic) to 42 hours?!! I'm astounded!
Have a look at the site for more details. And I was thinking that for people visiting Paris, a course like that would make for a great souvenir!!!

Now if I could just find this mythical three free hours in which to learn embroidery......
